Girls Doing Great!
Genesis Juniors girls teams excel
TUE 30 JUN 2009
Leigh Genesis Junior Girls had an unsurpassable weekend last week.
Euxton Tournament
On Saturday they won the Euxton tournament. In the first few games of the 1st stages of the competition the girls struggled on a tiny pitch but then switched to a larger pitch that suited their style of play. The results were:
Euxton North Drew 1-1
Bury Won 2-0
Aspull Belles Drew 0-0
Euxton South Won 1-0
Astley & Tyldesley Won 1-0
This unbeaten record meant Genesis moved into the semi-finals and another clash with Euxton North resulted in a 2-0 win for Genesis.
In the final Genesis faced Astley & Tyldesley and in an epic encounter the game was 0-0 at full time and extra time. In the penalty shootout Genesis keeper Gemma Aspinall performed heroics saving 3 out of four kicks taken against her whilst the Genesis hot shot penalty takers scored 3 out of four to take the trophy.
Wigan and District Girls Tournament
On Sunday Genesis hosted the Wigan & District Girls tournament and won the Cup at this too.
In the first stage of the competition Genesis didn't really find their form but their team shape made it very difficult for the opposition teams to create chances. The results were:
Euxton Won 2-0
Wigan A Won 1-0
Astley & Tyldesley Drew 0-0
Once again an unbeaten record put Genesis into the next stages of the competition. However, an unconvincing first game earned a hard fought draw but then the touch paper was ignited as Genesis hit top form winning their last 2 remaining group games to win a final spot. The results were:
Aspull Canarinas Drew 0-0
Mill Hill Won 2-0
Astley & Tyldesley Won 1-0
In the final Genesis met an old adversary in the form of the ever improving Aspull Junior Canarinas in a repeat of the Wigan Athletic Ladies FC Plate final just 3 weeks before.
In a game of nip and tuck Genesis nudged it 1-0 with a winner from Elizebeth Robertson.
What a weekend for Genesis. Out of 14 games, excluding penalties, they scored 14 goals, and conceded just 1, taking both trophies on offer.
Genesis girls are looking for new players at the U9 age group. Interested parents should contact Rob Atherton, Junior Secretary, on 07929 208623.
